What goes in it

Typically a one-paragraph description of the business, followed by grouped links to key pages with a line explaining each: services, case studies, guides and contact details. The idea is to give language models a clean map of the site without navigating menus and scripts.

Should you bother?

If your site is small and well structured, the benefit is modest. Treat llms.txt as a tidy extra, not a strategy. The things that move AI visibility are still clear pages, consistent facts, structured data and third-party mentions. If you add one, keep it updated when services change, because an outdated summary is worse than none.
