Obligations that matter most for AI
Purpose: only use personal data in AI tools for purposes customers or staff were told about or would reasonably expect. Protection: make sure the AI provider secures the data and does not reuse it in ways you have not agreed to. Transfer: if data is processed outside Singapore, ensure comparable protection, usually through contracts. Retention: do not keep prompts, chat logs or recordings longer than needed.
Accuracy matters too. If AI output is used to make decisions about individuals, take reasonable steps to ensure it is correct.
Practical steps
Use business plans of AI tools whose terms exclude your data from model training. Keep a list of which AI tools touch personal data and why. Update your privacy notice to mention AI processing where relevant. Train staff on what can and cannot go into AI tools. For anything high-risk, such as health or financial data, take legal advice.
