Where ChatGPT's answers come from
Assistants like ChatGPT draw on what they learned in training and, increasingly, on live web searches run while answering. When they search, they read a small number of pages and summarise them. To be mentioned, your business needs to appear in the pages they find for that question and be described clearly enough to be summarised correctly.
That is why third-party pages matter so much: comparison articles, directories, review sites, news, forums and industry associations are often what gets read, not only your own site.
Practical steps
Write one page per service that states plainly what it is, who it is for, where you operate and what makes you different. Add an FAQ answering the questions buyers type into AI tools. Keep your Google Business Profile, LinkedIn and directory listings consistent. Ask happy customers for reviews. Pursue genuine mentions: case studies, guest articles, podcasts, local media and partner pages.
Then test it: ask the AI tools the questions your buyers ask, every month, and record whether you appear and how you are described.
